To close port 5000 (upnp or fics):

Windows 98 or 98 Second Edition
Windows ME
Windows XP


Windows 98/98 Second Edition - follow these steps:

  1. There is no built-in UPnP support for these operating systems.
  2. UPnP only is used if the Windows XP Internet Connection Sharing client has been installed.

Windows ME - follow these steps:

  1. Click on StartSettingsControl Panel Add/Remove Programs
  2. Select the Windows Set-Up tab
  3. Select the "Windows Set-up" Tab
  4. In the Components Field select Communications
  5. In the Components Field scroll down and uncheck the box to the left of Universal Plug and Play
  6. Click "OK"


Windows XP - follow these steps:

  1. Click on StartControl PanelAdministrative Tools
  2. Double click on the Services icon
  3. Scroll down until you see the SSDP Discovery Service and double click on it
  4. Select the General tab.
  5. In the Startup Type: field change the option to Disabled and click OK
